Life on Earth: Selected Fieldtrip Encounters with Wild Species (2011-2019), opens this World Environment Day, Wednesday 5 June 2019, 6-8pm at Metro Arts Brisbane.

Artist talk: Saturday 15th June, 3pm.

My show ‘Life on Earth’ is a labour of love, and reveals selected personal encounters with threatened, endangered and extinct species experienced during global fieldtrips over the last 10 years to National Parks, wildlife refuges, zoos and natural history museums… recreated in paint, video and photography. I’ve written an accompanying essay that will be uploaded to the Media page after the 5th June.

There will be a short speech at the opening on World Environment Day June 5 @ 6pm by Queensland Museum Mammal & Bird Collections Manager Heather Janetzki – the person who showed me my first ever night parrot, sparking all the work that followed…

The award of The Dean Collection #TDC20 grant set all of this dream project into motion, and helped me make this exhibition a reality – huge thanks to Hasseem, Alicia, Dmitriy, Nicola and the rest of the TDC team. Staging this show would not have been possible without the support and vision of Metro Arts, especially Jo, Kyle, Shani, Bri and Paula, and my fab install crew, Julie-Anne Milinski.

If you’re in Brisbane on the 5th or 15th, please come and say hi- would love to see you there!

Lvl 2, 109 Edwards St, Brisbane.

NB: This event has a cash bar, raising funds supporting the fab work of Metro Arts. Nibbles free!

Exhibition runs 5-15th June 2019.

Hours:

*NB: One work featured is the Endangered Black-throated finch (Poephila cincta cincta, Queensland Museum)’ 2019 – a portrait of the beautiful native bird species now at risk of extinction after the awful news of the Qld Government Adani Mine approval on the ‘protection plan’ for this species this week.

The frame for this painting was donated by the wonderful Kevan at Arthouse Northside in Deagon, Brisbane. 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to Birds Queensland & Bush Heritage Australia to help their work to conserve and protect our native species and ancient environment. For serious enquiries please email me – details via my website Contact page. (NB: finch has SOLD 5/6/19).
